The newest release from assholeknife on tape! wakes up is a collection of improvised songs from the trio featuring a variety of instruments, samples and stream-of-consciousness lyrics. Sometimes noisy, sometimes droning; percussive rhythms meld with melodious vocals and burbling synth, punctuated by stabs of sound.

wakes up was performed entirely improvisationally with no planning. chris played a yamaha cs reface synth, katie created sounds using ethereal dialpad for android and samples she made from educational films on the internet archive (archive.org), and joe played a critter & guitari pocket piano, a mmxx t-ape stereophonic bytebeat generator, and sang stream-of-consciousness lyrics into a sony f-98 cardioid microphone. the session was recorded using a tascam dr44wl field recorder.
wakes up was mixed and mastered by joe carlough, except for “wake up (breakbeat remix),” which was produced, mixed, and mastered by chris baldys.
